Just tried “Blood Stain,” on your recommendation, but it’s going to be a DNF for me. While the crime was sensational, I found the writing even more so-over-heated, judgmental, and salacious, without any presentation of the participants as actual people. The only thing missing were the exclamation points after every other sentence. Ultimately, I think the book suffers from being written in the heat of the investigation. My personal feeling is that the author needed significantly more distance from the story to create a truly human narrative.

I loved The Last Time I Lied. I'm dying to hear what you think of it! I've read most of the Agatha Raisin series but she recycles the introduction from every book and the stories all start to blend into one another. I'd suggest giving another cozy mystery (series) a try instead.

Never apologize for gifting us with crimey whimey goodness! I love "Crime Corner"! I can't offer any sort of insight on the books you mentioned but did want to say that I am currently reading "The Surgeon" by Tess Gerritsen (quite tardy to the party, I realize) and although I can't stop reading it, I am finding it to be really difficult because she describes things with such intimate detail. The blood, the guts, the gore is RIGHT IN YER FACE! BOOM! But it's so hard to get through because I have never been good with that sort of thing. *shudder*

I haven't read any Shari Lapena. I have her other book, The Couple Next Door, but I hadn't heard great things so keep putting it off. I hope this one wins you over! I can't wait for the new Riley Sager book!! I have Dead Girls on my TBR!! Very excited to read that too. Great haul!

I havent read Donna Andrews so I'm going to try her Meg Series. As for True Crime - have you ever read Beyond Reasonable Doubt by David Yallop? An old crime that took place in NZ in 1970 - the book was published in 1995. About a true crime in New Zealand. I believe this murder is still unsolved as of 2018. There was a movie made in NZ in the early 1980s but that was after the suspect went to prison. He was later pardoned and released from prison. Apparently some of the evidence was faked against him. Only read the David Yallop book. It should be available online. But there is also mention of a more recent biography by Arthur Allen Thomas dated 2010. The suspect - Arthur Allen Thomas -
    The victims -

I tried Donna Andrews book gone gull ( gotta love the title) it was just ok but I have been reading a lot of mc Beaton’s 2 series of Agatha and Hamish Macbeth which I enjoy A Lot 😃 I’m about halfway with with both series which in my infinite wisdom I did not read in order but I really get a great power on through my reading when I read them
I’m currently reading baby teeth by zoje stage
And for a fun cozy I love Laura Levine her series is delightful

I comply agree with you about Shari Lapena books, I might give her new one a try. I am in the same mindset about Ruth Ware's new book! I have just ordered Riley Sager's new book and The 57 Bus (which was on my wish list and I had forgotten about it, thanks for reminder). I also need to order the new Daniel Cole book as I enjoyed Ragdoll, my poor bank balance 😱
